Jam Sessions #2
As I mentioned in Jam Sessions #1, music has been a huge part of my life for over a decade—first as a listener, and now as a musician (drums, bass, and guitar).
Since moving to the Basque Country in 2020, I’ve been a regular at the jams hosted by Atelier MG. But in early 2024, everything changed when I met Greg, who introduced me to a whole world of public jam sessions in the area. At first, I was hesitant—playing in public was a bit intimidating—but over time, I found my rhythm. These sessions quickly became a place where I could learn, grow, and connect. Seeing the same faces over and over again helped build a close-knit community of passionate musicians who always lift each other up.
As always, I recorded my time on stage with a mic—partly to reflect on my performance, but also to capture the magic of playing alongside such talented musicians. By October 2024, I had over 100 hours of recordings from more than 20 sessions. I went through all of them and chose five excerpts to share on Instagram, each one shining a light on a specific instrument—and more importantly, the incredible musician behind it.
To make these moments even more special, I leaned on the brand-new motion design skills I picked up during a motion module at LABASAD just a few weeks earlier. It’s still a skill I’m learning, but I created an animation for each instrument to pair with the audio and bring a fresh energy to the project.
Here’s who joined me on stage for each excerpt:
#1 at Big Moustache: Maxime (sax), Lotfi (guitar), Jean-Seb (lap steel), Matt (bass), me (drums).
#2 at La Groovance: Thomas (lead guitar), Lotfi (guitar), Soren (drums), me (bass).
#3 at Newquay: Victor (drums), Massar (lead guitar), Antoine (guitar), Quentin (keyboard), me (bass).
#4 at Le Local: Quentin (bass), Lotfi (lead guitar), Pierre (guitar), me (drums).
#5 at La Groovance: Sevan (keyboard), Thomas, Tigran (guitars), Rudy (drums), me (bass).
