Throwback to the 2000s

"Throwback to the 2000s" was a student project for the Motion Design module of my graphic design master’s program at LABASAD, taught by Vincent De Boeck. For our final project, we had to animate three words of our choice, bringing their meaning to life through motion.

I wanted to tap into something personal, so I leaned into nostalgia. I picked three things that defined my teenage years: the chaotic buzz of an MSN Wizz, the endless scroll of untitled tracks on my MP3 player, and those late nights binge-watching Secret Story or Pokémon on TV. Each animation was a little time machine, pulling me back to moments I hadn’t thought about in years.

What started as a simple assignment ended up sparking something deeper. A few weeks later, I found myself diving back into After Effects, this time creating motion pieces to capture the energy of jam sessions.
