Jam Sessions #1

Music has been a huge part of my life ever since I spent a semester in Boston back in 2012, for a Fall internship at Havas Media. That’s when I met Makadi, a young musician and now close friend of mine, who introduced me to the magic of live music. Over the years, I went from being an avid concert-goer to picking up my first instrument in 2017—a drum kit, after a surf trip to Morocco sparked my curiosity. Then came the bass in 2021, thanks to my friend Adrien Mathieu, and finally the guitar in the Summer of 2024.

Jamming with other musicians is something I’ve always loved. It’s chaotic, unpredictable, and sometimes intimidating, but the energy is unmatched. I started with JamSpace in Paris and later joined the vibrant jam scene in the Basque Country.

It was at Atelier MG, a local music association (now La Groovance), that I took my first steps into the Basque jam scene in 2020. Held regularly in their cozy and welcoming studio, these jams quickly became a highlight of my daily life. That same year, I bought a microphone to record my on-stage sessions, hoping to reflect on my playing and improve. But what started as self-reflection turned into something else—some of the improvisations were just too good not to be shared.

In January 2024, I recorded one of the most memorable jams I’ve been a part of and decided to post six audio excerpts on Instagram. To make them even more special, I paired each clip with an abstract motion design animation I created to reflect the energy of the music.

Here’s who was on stage for each excerpt:

#1: Inès (flute), Pathoum, Jean-Luc (guitars), Adrien (drums), me (bass).

#2: Yann, Fred (guitars), Adrien (bass), me (drums).

#3: Inès (flute), Yann, Fred, Jean-Luc (guitars), Adrien (drums), me (bass).

#4: Inès (flute), Hugo (guitar), Anouck (cajón), Adrien (bass), me (drums).

#5: Inès (flute), Hugo (guitar), Anouck (cajón), Adrien (bass), me (drums).

#6: Inès (flute), Pathoum, Fred, Hugo (guitars), Adrien (drums), me (bass).
