All You Can Eat

In March 2024, Timothée Parrique, an economist specializing in Degrowth, asked me to design the slides for his keynote at ChangeNOW in Paris. It wasn’t just any presentation—this was one of his biggest conference ever, with over 700 people in the audience and an online replay to follow. Timothée usually creates his own slides, but this time he wanted something special—slides that would wow the crowd and match the scale of his performance.

It was an exciting challenge. Timothée is an incredible speaker, so designing for him felt like an honor. I dedicated a full week to the project. He didn’t have an established graphic identity, so I quickly pulled one together and worked closely with him to structure the content for maximum impact. The real challenge was making dense scientific graphs not only digestible but visually engaging. And then came his metaphors. Timothée loves metaphors, and I couldn’t resist translating some of them into visuals.

When he described the many schools of ecological thought as a Netflix catalog, I created a fake streaming platform called “Sustainability.” I even mocked up a fictive disaster movie page for “The Growth Controversy.” Another metaphor compared uniting ecological movements to assembling the Avengers, so I designed a poster for “Avengers of Sustainability,” featuring green-suited superheroes from Marvel and DC.

Seeing those slides projected on a massive screen, in front of a packed room, was surreal. The feedback on the design was amazing, and it brought me back to my time at Twitter—crafting presentations that would resonate with an audience.
